JAMES THOMSON FROM EDINBURGH SENTENCED FOR DECADES OF CHILD SEX OFFENSES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Edinburgh, James Thomson, a 55-year-old man, was sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against young children over a span of more than three decades.Thomson, who worked as a school janitor, exploited his position and trust to prey on vulnerable youngsters.
The court heard that he had taken advantage of children as young as three years old, with the abuse stretching back to 1976.
Among his victims were two girls, aged six and eight at the time, whom he coerced into performing oral sex on him on multiple occasions over a period of seven years.
In addition to these grave offenses, Thomson was also implicated in abusing a boy and a girl, both aged six, whom he manipulated into touching his private parts on several occasions over a three-year period.
The court was told that these incidents occurred at West Pilton Primary School in Edinburgh, where Thomson was employed as a caretaker.
Despite the severity of his actions, Thomson was suspended from his duties following initial allegations.
However, in a controversial decision, Thomson was permitted to continue residing on the school campus shared by Pirniehall and St David’s Primary Schools in Pilton, Edinburgh, as part of his city council employment contract, even after his suspension.
This decision drew significant criticism from the community and child protection advocates.
Thomson’s name has been added to the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
His conviction and sentencing mark a significant step in addressing the long-standing abuse allegations and serve as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding children from those who abuse positions of trust.
