OFFENDER JAMES TAYLOR JAILED FOR ASSAULT AND THREATENING BEHAVIOR
James Taylor, 41 years old, was convicted of violent and aggressive behavior towards his on-and-off partner of six years after an incident on December 23 last year. The incident involved Taylor attacking the woman at her home following an argument, which he claimed was due to her alleged infidelity.
Prosecutor Erin Kitson-Parker described how Taylor woke the woman in the middle of the night and became aggressive, shouting accusations about her unfaithfulness.
He pulled her by the hair, resulting in a chunk being pulled out, kicked her leg and caused bruises, and seized her previously broken wrist, threatening to break all her bones and damaging her wrist brace.
After the assault, Taylor apologized and left her residence the next morning.
Several days later, on December 29, he sent threatening texts and calls accusing her of abandoning her son, and made alarming threats against her, her family, and even mentioned digging up her deceased father.
The woman contacted police, citing fear and distress, especially over Taylor’s comments about her late father.
Taylor was detained and faced legal proceedings, ultimately being convicted at Kirklees Magistrates' Court of improper use of a public communications network and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He has a history of ten convictions for a total of twelve offences, such as battery, violating a non-molestation order, and wounding.
His last court appearance before this was in 2016, which resulted in a suspended sentence.
It was noted that Taylor struggled with alcohol and drug problems in the past, but he managed to abstain from these during his time in prison.
The relationship with his partner was described as volatile, with allegations of infidelity from both sides.
The judge sentenced him to 16 months for the assault and an additional two months for the communication offences, to be served one after the other, making a total of 18 months.
He will serve half of this in detention before being released on licence.
