ABERDEEN MAN JAILED FOR ABUSING VULNERABLE CHILDREN
A sex predator who abused vulnerable children two decades ago was jailed for six years today.James Stewart (61) molested and assaulted four victims, subjecting three children to sexual ordeals.
A judge stated at the High Court in Edinburgh that a substantial jail sentence was necessary to reflect the gravity of his crimes.
Lord Beckett remarked: “You conduct has had serious and lasting effects on your victims.” He emphasized that the sentence aimed to punish Stewart and deter others from similar offenses.
The judge noted he considered the passage of time since the last offenses, Stewart’s age, health, and his minimal prior record.
Stewart was convicted of five sexual crimes and an assault committed between 1990 and 1994 at Aberdeen and Kemnay, where he lived.
His victims included a girl molested from age 11 who was forced to perform sex acts, including being abused with a banana, and another girl aged 12 or 13 on whom he carried out a sex act and exposed himself.
He also made sexual remarks to a teenager at a different address in Aberdeen and assaulted another victim by urinating on her.
Stewart has maintained his innocence throughout, according to his defense counsel Mark Stewart QC, and has not offended since these crimes.
