BRISTOL MAN JAMES STAYNINGS CAUGHT IN EXETER MCDONALDS PLOT TO MEET BOY FOR SEX

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, James Staynings, a man from Bristol, was exposed as an internet predator involved in grooming young boys for sexual activities.

The incident unfolded when police officers, operating undercover, managed to trap him in a sting operation that revealed his sinister intentions.

Staynings, who is 64 years old and resides on Ambleside Drive in Bristol, had been communicating online with what he believed was a 14-year-old boy named Joshua.

Over a period of two weeks, he exchanged explicit messages with the supposed minor, discussing sexual acts, including digital penetration, oral sex, kissing, and touching.

During this time, he also requested photographs of the boy in his bedroom and suggested traveling from his home in Bristol to Exeter to meet him in person.

His plan was to meet the boy at his home and engage in sexual activity, even going so far as to plan to take a shower with him.

However, his intentions were thwarted when police officers, posing as the boy, intercepted him at a McDonald's restaurant located in Marsh Barton, Exeter.

As he waited at the fast-food outlet, officers arrested him before he could carry out his plans.

One of his last messages to Joshua was a worried attempt to avoid detection, in which he wrote, “I don’t want to be arrested for being a paedo.” Further investigation of Staynings’s phone revealed disturbing evidence, including sexual conversations with three other boys aged between 13 and 16.

The device contained explicit images, some of which depicted the boys’ genitals, with some images sent directly to him by the minors.

Additionally, Staynings had sent naked photographs of himself to some of his online contacts, further illustrating his inappropriate behavior.

It was also revealed that Staynings was a respected member of a church community in Bristol.

During his court appearance, the female pastor of his church attended and supported him from the public gallery, highlighting the stark contrast between his public persona and his criminal actions.

Prior to his arrest, Staynings was happily married and had two adult children.

However, his marriage ended when his wife threw him out following the allegations.

He has since moved back to live with his 84-year-old mother.

At Exeter Crown Court, Judge Peter Johnson sentenced Staynings to six months in prison, suspended for two years.

The judge also ordered him to attend a sex offenders’ treatment program, pay costs of £350, and register as a sex offender.

Furthermore, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order that restricts his contact with children and allows police to monitor his internet activity for the next seven years.

Prosecutor Mr.

Brian Fitzherbert explained that Staynings had unknowingly contacted Joshua through the Chat Avenue website in April, unaware that the profile was a police decoy created by child protection officers.

The exchange of messages included discussions of sexual acts and plans to meet in Exeter.

Two days before the scheduled meeting, Staynings expressed doubt about Joshua’s authenticity, requesting confirmation that he was real.

An officer, posing as the boy, then engaged in a six-minute phone call with him, during which Staynings expressed concern about being caught and made comments indicating his fear of being labeled a paedophile.

The arrest was made at the McDonald's in Marsh Barton, where police found evidence of his contact with other minors.

His phone contained images of boys aged 13 to 16, including one of a boy masturbating in front of a mirror.

Staynings admitted to contacting multiple boys, some of whom may have been real rather than decoys, raising serious concerns about his wider online activities and intentions.
