JAMES SHAND SENTENCED IN BIRMINGHAM FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES

A man from Birmingham, James Shand, has been handed a severe prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple child sex offences. The 57-year-old was convicted on a total of 12 counts related to sexual misconduct, although he admitted guilt to five of these charges. His criminal activities involved disturbing acts such as causing or inciting a girl under the age of 13 to participate in sexual acts, engaging in sexual assault, and performing sexual activities in the presence of minors. The charges also included sexual assault on females, incitement of minors to engage in sexual acts, and exposing minors to sexual acts, highlighting the severity and breadth of his offending.

Shand's sentencing took place at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday, June 2. The court handed down a total prison term of 17 years and three months. Specifically, he received a 16-year sentence for causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity, with an additional 15 months added for a related offence that was to be served consecutively. The court also mandated that Shand register on the Sexual Offender Register for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities moving forward. Furthermore, he faces restrictions that may prevent him from working with children and vulnerable adults in the future.

In addition to his imprisonment, Shand is subject to a Restraining Order and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, both of which will remain in effect until further notice. These legal restrictions aim to protect the community from any potential risk posed by his presence or contact with vulnerable individuals.
