April 2019 Child sex image perv back in court over Xbox account A perverted carer who was struck off after being caught with indecent images, has landed himself back in court. James Purdie lost his job as a carer at Cumbrae Lodge Care Home in Castlepark after being caught with indecent images between November 2014 and 2015. He was convicted at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in April 2016 of possessing the pictures in Woodlands Avenue and Dickson Drive. At the time Purdie, who was also a volunteer coach with Clark Drive Girls football team, was found with pictures rated amongst the highest level of depravity. He was sentenced to 270 hours of unpaid work, three years supervision and placed on a program called Moving Forward, Making Changes. But last week Purdie, who must register all electronic devices to the Offender Management Team charged with overseeing him and found himself in the dock once again after connecting to the internet through his Xbox and failing to register his username with police. Fiscal depute Stewart McMillan told the court: “In May 2018 officers attended the accused’s home. “They noticed a games console within the living room it seemed to have been on and the display at the time gave rise to a user name which meant he had connected to the internet. “Checks were carried out in regards to this and it was determined that it had not been reported to police.” Sheriff Shirley Foran deferred sentence until next month for reports. April 2016 Pervert avoids prison after admitting having possession of indecent images of children A FORMER trainee coach at a girls’ football club has avoided jail after being caught with indecent images. Saltcoats man James Purdie, 32, who was in training to be a coach for Clark Drive Girls team, admitted possessing indecent images and taking or permitting images to be taken in Woodlands Avenue and Dickson Drive in Irvine between November 2014 and November last year. Despite Kilmarnock Sheriff Court previously hearing how the pictures were rated amongst the highest levels of depravity, Purdie narrowly avoided a jail sentence. Purdie volunteered at Irvine’s Clark Drive Girls and was in training to earn his coaching badges however had not yet gained his Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) accreditation, meaning he was never alone in charge of any children. … Purdie, of Guthrie Road, Saltcoats, returned to court this week following the preparation of social work reports. Simon Brown defending told presiding Sheriff Derek Livingston that Purdie’s report was accurate and he had complied fully and did not think he could say anything further in mitigation. Mr Brown said Sheriff Livingston had a very clear choice between a custodial sentence and a community based alternative. But Sheriff Livingston voiced his concern saying: “My concern is about the nature of some of the pictures but on the other hand it was not a particularly high number.” Mr Brown said his client had been cooperative throughout and had signalled his intention to plead guilty from late November. When passing sentence Sheriff Livingston said: “I’m prepared to deal with this with a non custodial sentence, taking into account a) your early plea and b) everything that’s said in the report. “I could have been perfectly justified in imposing a custodial sentence but my main priority is sorting you out and getting you assistance to stop behaviour of this nature.” Purdie was sentenced to 270 hours unpaid work, three years supervision and ordered to complete a program called “Moving Forward, Making Changes”. March 2016 Man pleads guilty to possessing indecent images of children A 32-year-old man caught with vile indecent images of children has had his sentence deferred. At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, James Purdie pleaded guilty to charges of possessing indecent images and taking or permitting images to be taken at properties in Woodlands Avenue and Dickson Drive, Irvine, between November 2014 and November last year. The court heard that some of the images were at the highest level of depravity – featuring girls as young as two being abused by adult men. Police raided Purdie’s home at 9.35am on November 19 last year. A brief examination of a laptop computer immediately uncovered indecent images of children. Purdie told officers: “Everything you have found is mine.” A full examination of the laptop led to the discovery of a total of 115 images of girls aged between two and 12 which he had obtained via file-sharing sites. Some of those being abused were clearly in pain, Sheriff Derek Livingston was told. Simon Brown, defending, said that the prosecution narration had been agreed with the defence. He asked that bail be continued. “He has been co-operative throughout,” said Mr Brown. There had also been an early indication of pleas of guilty, said the solicitor. Sheriff Livingston deferred sentence until April 15 and called for a criminal justice social work report. The sheriff placed Purdie, who now resides at Barrie Terrace, Ardrossan, on the sex offenders register.
