JAMES PROCTOR FROM AINSDALE, SOUTHPORT, SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE CASE

In July 2012, James Proctor, a man previously known in the Southport area, was released from prison and was subsequently spotted in the town of Southport, raising concerns among local residents and authorities alike.

Back in July 2008, Proctor, a former computer company executive and Sefton Businessman of the Year, was convicted of a series of heinous sexual offenses involving a young girl. The case revealed that the abuse had been ongoing for more than four years, with the victim subjected to repeated assaults that sometimes occurred multiple times within a single week.

The victim’s mother, deeply affected by the trauma her daughter endured, expressed her anguish and frustration, stating that no prison sentence could restore her daughter’s lost innocence. She emphasized the lasting impact of the abuse, describing her family as having been sentenced to a lifetime of suffering due to Proctor’s actions.

During the court proceedings at Liverpool Crown Court, it was disclosed that the abuse may have started as early as the girl’s second birthday in 1991 and continued until she was seven years old. The victim, who was 16 at the time she confided in her mother, recounted the disturbing details of the assaults, which had haunted her for years.

Proctor, who was once celebrated as a successful businessman, was described by the court as “perverted” for his actions. He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, with an extended five-year license period. Judge David Harris, QC, presided over the case and made it clear that the severity of Proctor’s crimes warranted a harsh sentence.

Judge Harris noted that the abuse began before the girl was old enough to understand that such behavior was wrong, describing the acts as “very grave” and condemning them as actions that would evoke universal disgust and moral outrage.

In addition to his prison sentence, Proctor, who has prior convictions for assault, was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and was given a sexual offenders’ prevention order. During the sentencing, Proctor, who was supported by his wife from the public gallery, muttered and shook his head as he was taken away. As he was led out, he shouted “rock on the appeal” to the victim’s relatives.

Despite maintaining his innocence throughout the trial, Proctor was convicted on nine counts of indecent assault by a jury on March 18. His victim described the unpredictable nature of the abuse, noting that sometimes it happened every other day, while at other times, she could go a week without incident. She recounted that Proctor would sometimes assault her on consecutive days.

Judge Harris criticized Proctor for his lack of remorse and empathy, highlighting that he had denied the allegations and insisted that the victim was lying. The judge emphasized that Proctor’s attitude had only added to her suffering, as he showed no concern for her well-being and only cared about himself.

In conclusion, the court reaffirmed that Proctor’s actions had satisfied his perverted sexual behavior, and that the young girl’s right was to be protected and kept safe from harm. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of such crimes and the importance of justice for victims.
