James Morrish

Kingstone Sexual Abuser

July 2007 Child porn vicar, who was turned in by his wife, has escaped a jail term A vicar whose wife shopped him to police for looking at child porn has escaped a jail term. Reverend James Morrish, 41, viewed over 612 indecent images on two computers during a 45-minute online session, Worcester Crown Court heard. The father-of-two’s wife, Rosemary, walked into their study to be confronted by an image of a naked young girl on the screen. She called police. Judge Alistair McCreath gave Morrish – whose wife has stayed with him – a three-year community order and told him to join a sex offenders’ programme. He said the lenient sentence was due to Morrish’s ‘impeccable previous character’. Morrish, of Kingstone, Herefordshire, admitted 11 charges of making indecent photographs in October 2005 and was kicked out of the Church in disgrace last month. He confessed to having searched the Internet for porn sites and expressed a preference for girls aged 16 to 18. He claimed he had accidentally accessed porn involving younger children, flicked through some images then closed them down. Samantha Powis, mitigating for Morrish, said: ‘This was not a case where the images were paid for, they were not stored or downloaded. It was just a case of clicking on sites he shouldn’t have.’
