JAMES MOORE FROM BLACKBURN AND FALKIRK SENTENCED FOR DECADES OF SEXUAL ABUSE AND VIOLENCE
In a case that spanned over twenty years of disturbing criminal activity, James Moore, a man with ties to both Blackburn and Falkirk, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for a series of violent and sexual offenses.The High Court in Edinburgh heard detailed accounts of Moore’s long history of abuse, which included targeting vulnerable victims in various locations across West Lothian and Falkirk.
Moore, aged 63 at the time of sentencing, was convicted on ten charges that encompassed indecency, assault, breach of the peace, and attempted rape.
Despite his conviction, Moore maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, asserting that he was not guilty of the crimes for which he was found responsible.
The presiding judge, Lord Kinclaven, made it clear that the severity and nature of Moore’s offenses left no alternative but to impose a custodial sentence.
He stated, “In effect the sentence of the court in respect of all of these charges is one of seven and a half years imprisonment.” As part of his sentence, Moore was also ordered to register as a sex offender, a standard procedure for individuals convicted of such serious crimes.
The court’s findings revealed that Moore’s criminal conduct began as early as the 1970s, with his first known offense involving a sexual act committed against a young girl aged between six and eight at a residence in Blackburn, West Lothian.
Throughout the 1980s and into the 2000s, Moore’s pattern of violence and misconduct persisted.
He engaged in a series of breaches of the peace over a 14-year period, which extended until the year 2000.
These incidents took place at various homes in Whitburn, Carronshore, and Bainsford, where he was known to shout, swear, throw drinks and food against walls, and even smash windows in fits of rage.
In addition to his acts of violence, Moore assaulted a woman multiple times during this period.
His attacks included repeated punches, slaps to the head, kicking, and even poking her with a finger.
In 1989, he attempted to rape her at a house in Carronshore, where he lay on top of her despite her protests and pleas for him to stop.
Moore’s abuse extended to children as well.
He was known to have beaten a girl with a belt from the age of eight, and later, when she was 13, he continued to molest her and engage in sexual acts.
Another young girl, aged 10, was also subjected to physical violence by Moore, who hit her on the head and body with his hands before beginning to sexually molest her.
Initially, Moore faced an additional charge of raping the woman he was convicted of attempting to rape; however, this charge was withdrawn by the Crown.
His pattern of violence and abuse persisted until 1994, marking a long and troubling history of criminal behavior that caused significant harm to his victims and left a lasting impact on their lives.
