SHEFFIELD MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND THREAT WITH KNIFE
A 51-year-old man named James Martin was involved in a violent attack at his partner’s home in Sheffield during September of that year.He dragged his girlfriend across the floor by her hair, threatened her with a steak knife held against her neck, and poured cider over her in a shocking incident.
Prosecutors explained that Martin had been drinking heavily at the time, and the assault followed ongoing domestic issues for which he was still on police bail.
The court was told that Martin’s conduct became more aggressive as he verbally abused the woman, restrained her physically by placing his hands around her neck, and made threats to her life.
He also bit her shoulder and pressed a steak knife against her throat, which resulted in a puncture wound.
During the melee, the woman managed to call the police before Martin left but later returned to the house, shouting insults in front of law enforcement officers.
She described her constant fear of Martin, driven by his jealousy and controlling nature.
Court records revealed that Martin had 35 convictions covering 65 offences, including harassment charges.
His last conviction was in 2021, when he appeared to have adhered to supervision conditions.
Judge David Dixon sentenced him to two years and three months in prison for assault causing actual bodily harm, highlighting the severity of holding a knife to someone’s neck and the potential risk Martin posed to women generally.
