JAMES KENNY CAUGHT IN NEWCASTLE PAEDOPHILE HUNT TRYING TO ENGAGE WITH UNDERAGE GIRLS

In July 2020, a disturbing incident unfolded in Newcastle involving a pensioner named James Kenny, who was caught attempting to engage in illicit sexual conversations with what he believed to be three underage girls.

The incident was orchestrated by vigilant paedophile hunter groups who set up decoy profiles on social media platforms, posing as underage girls to identify adults seeking illegal encounters.

James Kenny, aged 66 and residing in sheltered accommodation in Walker, Newcastle, believed he was communicating with three 14-year-old girls over a span of two days in August.

However, the profiles he interacted with were not genuine; they were carefully created decoys by members of two separate paedophile hunter organizations dedicated to exposing adults attempting to contact minors for sexual purposes.

During the court proceedings at Newcastle Crown Court, prosecutor David Comb highlighted that the conversations between Kenny and the decoy profiles were notably similar and contained explicit sexual references.

The exchanges were described as graphic and disturbing, revealing Kenny’s intent to incite sexual activity with minors.

The court was informed that Kenny’s actions constituted serious offences, leading to his guilty plea on three counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

Judge Julie Clemitson sentenced Kenny to a three-year community order, which includes requirements for rehabilitation and participation in various programmes aimed at addressing his behaviour.

Additionally, she imposed a four-month nighttime curfew to restrict his movements during late hours.

As part of his ongoing obligations, Kenny is required to register as a sex offender and must adhere to a sexual harm prevention order for a period of five years.

In her remarks, Judge Clemitson emphasized the potential harm that could have resulted had the decoys been real children.

She stated, “Had these decoys been real children, the foreseeable harm could have been quite significant, given they were expressing themselves to be naive and inexperienced children.” The judge acknowledged Kenny’s health issues and the realistic prospects for rehabilitation, which contributed to her decision to avoid immediate imprisonment.

Nonetheless, the court made it clear that the case underscores the importance of vigilance and the ongoing threat posed by individuals seeking to exploit minors online.
