JAMES JONES FROM CARDIFF SENT TO PRISON FOR GROOMING CHILDREN IN ONLINE CHATROOMS
In October 2017, a man from Cardiff was sentenced to prison after engaging in the grooming of young children through online platforms.James Jones, aged 40 and residing on Beulah Road in Rhiwbina, was found to have contacted minors as young as 11 years old via a live streaming website that allows users to communicate with strangers in real-time.
Jones admitted to six counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and also pleaded guilty to the possession of indecent images of children.
His actions involved reaching out to vulnerable minors on a platform where users can interact through live video streams, which he exploited for his own sexual gratification.
Acting Detective Chief Inspector Mike Yeo commented on the case, stating, “Jones was a predatory offender who used the website to engage underage victims in live online streaming for his own sexual gratification.
He recorded these interactions to retain for his own benefit and to threaten his victims with the recordings.” Further investigations into Jones’s digital devices revealed the presence of indecent images of children.
This evidence was instrumental in protecting two young victims, one aged 13 and the other 11, with one victim located in the UK and the other in the United States.
Detective Yeo emphasized the importance of the investigation, highlighting the authorities’ commitment to safeguarding victims of such offences regardless of their location in the world.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat online child exploitation and bring offenders like James Jones to justice.
