JAMES JOHNSTON FROM COLCHESTER SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS FOR CHILD ABDUCTION AND SEXUAL OFFENCES
In April 2017, a man from Colchester was handed a prison sentence after admitting to serious criminal charges involving a minor.James Johnston, aged 31 and employed as a steelworker on D’Arcy Road in Colchester, was found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a child and of abducting a young girl.
Prior to his arrest, Johnston had been under police scrutiny following reports that he had been interacting inappropriately with a 14-year-old girl earlier that year.
Despite receiving a warning from law enforcement authorities, he continued to make contact with the girl, which prompted further investigation.
Subsequently, police took action and arrested Johnston on suspicion of child abduction.
The case was brought before Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday, April 11, where Johnston faced the charges.
During the court proceedings, he admitted to the allegations of child abduction and sexual activity with a minor.
As a result of his guilty plea, Johnston was sentenced to two years in prison.
In addition to his custodial sentence, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
