March 2013 James Hubbard, 64, admits sexually abusing boy A 64-year-old man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy. James Hubbard, of Portland Street, Exeter, pleaded guilty to 12 charges at Exeter Crown Court. He admitted seven charges of sexual activity with a child and five of making indecent images totalling 489 pictures – 195 of which showed adults abusing children. Warned by the judge to expect a prison sentence, Hubbard was given conditional bail and will be sentenced in April. ‘Further charges’ The court heard that the offences related to the same boy between November 2011 and June 2012 when he was a teenager. Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, told Hubbard: “You can expect a long prison sentence.” Defending, Emily Pitts, said Hubbard was in poor health but was preparing for the most likely sentence and was “trying to sort out his house”. Lee Bremridge for the prosecution said the case file would be reviewed and further charges may be brought against Hubbard. Following the court hearing Hubbard was given a home curfew and ordered to sign the sex offenders register. His bail conditions include not going within 100 yards (91m) of the victim’s home, not contacting anyone under the age of 16 and not being alone with any child.
