JAMES HUBBARD SHOCKS EXETER WITH SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEENAGE BOY AND DISTRIBUTION OF INDECENT IMAGES
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Exeter, 64-year-old James Hubbard has admitted to serious sexual offenses involving a teenage boy.The incident, which spans several months, has brought to light troubling details about Hubbard's actions and his possession of explicit material.
Hubbard, a resident of Portland Street in Exeter, appeared before Exeter Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to a total of twelve charges.
These charges included seven counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor and five counts related to the creation and distribution of indecent images.
The images in question amounted to a total of 489 pictures, with a disturbing subset of 195 images depicting adults abusing children.
The court was informed that the offenses took place over a period from November 2011 to June 2012, involving the same young victim who was only 14 years old at the time.
The gravity of the case was underscored by the judge, Francis Gilbert, QC, who warned Hubbard that he could expect a lengthy prison sentence when he is eventually sentenced in April.
The judge's remarks reflected the serious nature of the crimes and the potential consequences Hubbard faces.
During the hearing, Hubbard's defense attorney, Emily Pitts, highlighted his poor health condition and indicated that he was already preparing for the likely prison term.
She also mentioned that Hubbard was attempting to organize his personal affairs, including his residence, in anticipation of his sentencing.
Prosecutor Lee Bremridge informed the court that the case file would be reviewed further, and there was a possibility that additional charges could be brought against Hubbard as the investigation continues.
This suggests that authorities are still examining the full extent of Hubbard's actions and may pursue further legal action.
Following the court proceedings, Hubbard was not immediately remanded into custody but was instead granted conditional bail.
His bail conditions are strict: he must adhere to a home curfew, sign the sex offenders register, and comply with several restrictions designed to protect the community.
These include a prohibition from entering within 100 yards of the victim’s residence, a ban on contacting anyone under 16, and a rule that he must not be alone with any child.
These measures reflect the serious concern surrounding Hubbard’s case and the ongoing efforts by authorities to monitor and prevent any further harm.
The community of Exeter remains watchful as the legal process continues, with Hubbard’s sentencing scheduled for April, where the full weight of the law is expected to be applied.
