JAMES HOMER FROM BALLINGRY EXPOSED IN LONG-TERM DOMESTIC ABUSE CASE AT DUNFERMLINE COURT
The Dunfermline Sheriff Court has heard a disturbing account of over 16 years of domestic abuse committed by James Homer, a 69-year-old man residing in Capledrae Court, Ballingry. The court was informed that Homer subjected his former partner to a relentless pattern of physical violence and verbal intimidation that spanned more than a decade and a half, highlighting the severity and persistence of his abusive behavior.According to court records, Homer’s abusive conduct took place at his residence in Ballingry, with incidents occurring from September 25, 2005, through to August 31, 2021. The court detailed that Homer’s actions included multiple episodes of physical assault, such as pushing a woman’s birthday cake into her face, an act that exemplifies the cruelty and humiliation inflicted upon his partner. Additionally, Homer was reported to have made threatening remarks, including a chilling threat to “bash (her) brains in,” which left his partner in a state of terror. One particularly alarming incident involved Homer pinning her in a kitchen corner and shouting at her in a threatening manner, causing her to feel terrified and helpless.
Further evidence presented in court revealed that Homer’s abusive behavior extended beyond his home. It was reported that he showed up unannounced at his partner’s workplace, a school, where he shouted at her until other staff members intervened to de-escalate the situation. The court also heard that, even after their relationship had ended, Homer continued to threaten her. Weeks after their separation, he left a voicemail message in which he threatened to “hunt you down,” demonstrating his ongoing intent to intimidate and threaten her.
During the hearing, Sheriff Susan Duff described Homer’s offending as a “16-year catalogue of domestic abuse,” emphasizing the long-term nature of his misconduct. Homer ultimately pleaded guilty to charges related to this sustained pattern of physical and verbal abuse. The court decided to postpone sentencing until January 15, to allow for the preparation of background reports. The sheriff issued a stern warning to Homer, cautioning him not to assume that he would receive a non-custodial sentence, given the gravity of his actions.
Homer’s defense team highlighted his limited criminal record and his declining health, attempting to mitigate the severity of the sentence. Nonetheless, the case underscores a deeply troubling history of domestic violence and intimidation inflicted by Homer upon his former partner, illustrating the devastating impact of prolonged abuse within a domestic setting in Ballingry and the surrounding area.
