JAMES GREEN OF BRIGHOUSE SENT BACK TO PRISON FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN BRADFORD AND HALIFAX

In a disturbing series of events that have once again highlighted the ongoing issue of child exploitation, James Green, a man with a troubling criminal history, has been remanded into custody following his latest offenses involving the possession and distribution of indecent images of children. The case was heard at Bradford Crown Court, where the details of Green’s repeated violations and the serious nature of his offenses were laid bare.

Green, who has a long-standing record of sexual offenses against minors, was first convicted in 2011 at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for raping a girl under the age of 13. His criminal history also includes a 2019 sentence of ten months for downloading indecent images of children. As part of his 2019 sentence, Green was subjected to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which explicitly prohibited him from possessing any unauthorized devices capable of accessing the internet. Despite these restrictions, Green’s actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of children.

The latest incident came to light in April of the previous year when West Yorkshire police received intelligence about Green’s involvement in downloading child abuse images and videos. An investigation was swiftly launched, culminating in Green’s arrest in August. During a search of his mobile phone, officers discovered more than 250 images and videos classified in the most severe category, depicting the sexual abuse of children under five years old. The graphic nature of these images underscored the gravity of Green’s offending.

Further investigations revealed that Green’s criminal behavior was ongoing. Approximately two weeks after his initial arrest, police officers conducted a follow-up check at his residence on Croft Place in Brighouse. When questioned about additional devices, Green shockingly admitted, “I’ve got another one. There’s things on it. I can’t help myself.” This led officers to find a Samsung mobile phone hidden beneath his mattress, containing a small number of indecent images. Green’s actions did not cease there; in October, police conducted another monitoring operation and discovered that Green had acquired yet another mobile phone, which he had concealed in a plant pot. This device was not disclosed to authorities previously and contained further illicit material.

Green, aged 32, was released on police bail after his initial arrest. However, subsequent checks revealed that he had obtained a new mobile phone without informing the public protection unit. The phone was again hidden, this time in a plant pot, indicating a clear pattern of concealment and ongoing offending behavior. Green’s repeated breaches of the SHPO and his continued possession of indecent images led to a series of court proceedings. He ultimately pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the downloading and possession of indecent images of children, as well as persistent violations of his SHPO.

Judge Richard Mansell QC, the Recorder of Bradford, sentenced Green to an additional 24 months in prison. The judge emphasized that Green’s previous convictions and repeated breaches significantly aggravated his current offenses. He stated, “His offending was serious and persistent, and it was made worse by his prior convictions.” As part of his sentence, Green was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and remains under the restrictions of his existing SHPO.

Green’s case is a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by individuals with a history of sexual offenses against children. His actions have not only caused immense harm to vulnerable victims but also demonstrate the challenges law enforcement faces in monitoring and controlling repeat offenders. The community in Brighouse and the wider West Yorkshire area continues to be at risk from individuals like Green, whose criminal behavior persists despite previous convictions and legal restrictions.
