JAMES FARNFIELD SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL RAPE IN HAYWARDS HEATH

In a case that has shocked the community of Haywards Heath, James Farnfield, aged 25, was sentenced to a lengthy term of eleven and a half years in prison for his involvement in the sexual assault of two teenage girls. The heinous nature of his crimes and the brutality involved have been acknowledged by the judiciary, with top judges affirming that Farnfield received the punishment he deserved.

According to court reports, Farnfield carried out a series of disturbing and demeaning acts against his first victim, a 16-year-old girl. The attack was described as both brutal and sustained, leaving her deeply traumatised and degraded. The severity of the assault was highlighted during the proceedings, with Judge Peter Lakin emphasizing the emotional and psychological scars inflicted upon her.

The second victim, also a girl of similar age, was assaulted by Farnfield in a toilet. Her ordeal was equally distressing, and she was left with lasting mental scars. The court heard how these acts had a profound impact on both young women, underscoring the seriousness of Farnfield’s crimes.

Farnfield was initially convicted at Lewes Crown Court in November 2012. His convictions included sexual activity with a child, two counts of rape, and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm. However, he was acquitted of a third rape charge, which he had contested.

Following his conviction, Farnfield appealed against one of the rape convictions. His appeal was heard in London’s Appeal Court, where he challenged the consistency of the jury’s verdicts and the appropriateness of his sentence. The judges, however, dismissed his arguments, with Judge Lakin firmly stating that the conviction was safe and justified.

In addressing Farnfield’s appeal, Judge Lakin rejected claims that the sentences were excessive or inappropriate. He affirmed that the total sentence of eleven and a half years was entirely suitable given the gravity of the offences and the impact on the victims. The judge emphasized that the punishment reflected the seriousness of the crimes committed in Haywards Heath and was consistent with judicial standards for such offenses.
