October 2015 Scout leader avoids jail for sex abuse images of young boys A SCOUT leader who said looking at sex abuse images of boys ‘made him feel better’ because he was bullied in the past has avoided jail and been sent on an internet sex offenders’ programme. James Evans, 22, from Stotfold had 41 indecent images of boys aged between 8 and 15, Luton Crown Court heard yesterday. Nine images were at category A, the most serious level and 32 were at category B, the middle level. Prosecutor Ann Evans said he had been sent the images and then set up a Twitter account and re-tweeted the pictures. Evans, of Alexander Road, who had been with his scout group since he was six, pleaded guilty to five charges of possessing and downloading images. The court heard he was polite and courteous with the police. He admitted he had been foolish and was remorseful and apologetic. He said he had been bullied in the past and that looking at the images made him feel better. Andrew Morton, defending, asked Judge Michael Kay QC to pass a sentence that could be served in the community. The judge agreed and made a three year Community Order, with three years’ supervision and a condition that he attends a sex offender treatment programme. He must abide by the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The computer will be forfeit and the images destroyed.
