JAMES DILLON FROM EDINBURGH AND DALKEITH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Dalkeith and Edinburgh, James Dillon, an 18-year-old stock car racer, was found guilty of heinous sexual offenses involving two young girls. The incidents took place over a span of nearly two years, beginning when the victims were just eight years old.According to court proceedings, Dillon subjected one of the girls to repeated acts of sexual assault and rape at a residence in Dalkeith between October 2014 and October 2016. The young girl, who was only eight at the time, endured a series of abusive encounters that left a lasting impact. The court heard detailed testimonies about how Dillon’s actions began when she was at a very vulnerable age, highlighting the severity and cruelty of his misconduct.
In addition to the first victim, Dillon was also convicted of sexually assaulting another eight-year-old girl in Dalkeith. These assaults occurred between September 2014 and September 2015, with the young girl subjected to two separate sexual attacks. The evidence presented in court included testimonies from both victims, who described how Dillon exposed himself to them in private settings before committing the sexual offenses. Their accounts painted a disturbing picture of predatory behavior by Dillon, who denied all allegations during the trial.
Despite his denials, the jury at the High Court in Livingston found Dillon guilty of both rape and sexual assault charges after deliberating for just over four hours. The verdict was reached through majority decision, underscoring the strength of the evidence against him. Dillon’s background as a stock car racer, competing with the Mayfield Mob team alongside his father, also named James, was noted during the proceedings. He had previously denied the charges, asserting his innocence and pleading not guilty to all counts.
Following the conviction, Dillon was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh. Lord Summers, presiding over the case, emphasized that his sentencing was in accordance with guidance from the appeal court, reflecting the seriousness of the crimes committed. The case has garnered significant media attention, highlighting the importance of protecting vulnerable children from abuse and ensuring justice is served for victims of such heinous acts.
