LIVERPOOL MAN JAILED FOR HEADBUTTING EX AND THREATS IN STREET
A 23-year-old man named James Cowley from Holyhead, North Wales, has been convicted of multiple assault-related offenses including actual bodily harm and witness intimidation.The court heard that Cowley threatened his former teenage girlfriend, saying "drop the charges or your dad is dead," before headbutting her in the street.
Prior to this incident, Cowley had been banned from contacting his ex-girlfriend after warning her he would "burn her flat down" and kicking her front door.
Despite his bail conditions, Cowley flagrantly violated them by attending her address the next day and issuing further threats.
The teenage victim described how Cowley's "explosive temper" led to physical violence, including the headbutt which caused swelling and bruising to her forehead.
She revealed that Cowley had previously assaulted her, and that she feared for her life, stating: "No apology could ever erase the damage he has caused, I just hope he never gets an opportunity to destroy another young girl." The court also heard that Cowley had a history of violence, including two previous convictions for eight offenses, such as battery and criminal damage against his sister, and a suspended sentence for aggravated vehicle taking.
In court, Cowley's defense argued that he was trying to turn his life around, noting his employment and plans to care for his disabled father.
However, the judge found Cowley guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and witness intimidation, sentencing him to 27 months in prison and issuing a five-year restraining order.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of his actions, pointing out that Cowley's assault in breach of bail was aimed at intimidating his victim, and highlighted her vulnerability and trauma.
Cowley’s remorse was acknowledged, but his past convictions and aggressive behavior led to his incarceration.
