JAMES CODD FROM ROSYTH SENTENCED FOR ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR TOWARD PARTNER IN DUNFERMLINE

A man from Rosyth, identified as James Codd, has been found guilty of engaging in a prolonged pattern of abusive conduct towards his former partner over a period of approximately six months. The incident came to light during a court appearance at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, where Codd, aged 27 and residing in Parkgate, faced sentencing for his actions.

According to court records, Codd admitted to a series of aggressive and harmful behaviors that took place between August 1, 2021, and February 5, 2022. These incidents occurred at Mey Court in Dunfermline and other unspecified locations. The court heard that Codd's conduct included shouting, using abusive language, physical assault, and acts of violence directed at his partner. Specifically, he was reported to have pushed her and thrown a bottle at her during the course of their tumultuous relationship.

Depute fiscal Amy Robertson detailed some of the specific episodes that led to the charges. One such incident involved Codd shouting at his partner after she had been out with friends the previous night. During this confrontation, he called her a “slut” and accused her of sleeping with someone, implying infidelity. The situation escalated when he pushed her against a wall with both hands on her shoulders, demonstrating a clear act of physical aggression. The violence continued when he threw a bottle of wine in her direction, which shattered on the floor, creating a dangerous and intimidating environment.

Another troubling episode involved Codd reacting aggressively to a text message his partner received from another man. His response to this perceived betrayal was marked by hostility and violence, further illustrating the pattern of abusive behavior. On both occasions, the police were called to intervene, indicating the severity of the incidents and the concern for the safety of the victim.

In light of these findings, Sheriff Francis Gill delivered a sentence that aimed to address Codd’s behavior and prevent future incidents. The court imposed a community payback order requiring Codd to undergo 12 months of supervision, attend alcohol counseling sessions, and complete 80 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, a non-harassment order was issued, prohibiting Codd from contacting or approaching his former partner for a period of two years, in an effort to protect her from further harm.
