JAMES BACON FROM GRANTHAM ESCAPES JAIL AFTER POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

In a disturbing case that unfolded in Lincolnshire, police officers made a grim discovery involving James Bacon, a 45-year-old resident of Grantham, during a routine stop that occurred as he was preparing to leave for work. The incident took place on December 19 of the previous year, and it revealed a troubling pattern of criminal behavior linked to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

According to court reports, Bacon was immediately forthcoming with authorities, confessing to having illicit images stored on his mobile device. A subsequent search of his phone uncovered a collection of indecent images of minors, some of which were classified as the most serious category. Further investigation revealed that Bacon had been involved in online group chats on social media platforms, where discussions detailed the abuse and torture of young boys and girls in graphic terms. These conversations provided a disturbing insight into his thoughts and intentions, raising significant concerns about his potential for harm.

Prosecutor Chris Jeyes outlined the case before Lincoln Crown Court, emphasizing that Bacon was not a stranger to the justice system. He explained that Bacon had previously been convicted in May 2012, which resulted in an 18-month prison sentence, and had been under the supervision of authorities since then. The police executed a search warrant at Bacon’s residence on the night of December 19, finding him present and preparing to leave for work. His immediate admissions to possessing indecent images and involvement in online chats underscored the severity of the case.

Further examination of Bacon’s devices revealed multiple social media accounts, some of which were unknown to law enforcement, indicating an attempt to conceal his activities. The content of the online chats involved graphic descriptions of abuse and torture, which the prosecution described as providing a very concerning insight into Bacon’s mindset and desires. During police interviews, Bacon fully accepted his actions, citing personal issues such as a broken marriage as a catalyst for his behavior. He admitted to initially searching for adult images but then progressing to seek out indecent images of children.

In court, Bacon pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children, with a total of 37 images involved, including one in the most serious category. He also admitted to failing to comply with the notification requirements of his sex offenders’ registration order. Despite the gravity of these offenses, Bacon was spared immediate imprisonment. Instead, he received a 15-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, coupled with a requirement to participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities. Additionally, he was issued an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and ordered to pay £500 in prosecution costs.

Judge Andrew Easteal, who presided over the case, explained the rationale behind the decision not to send Bacon to prison. He stated, “You seem to have been caught before you slid back into the mire you were in before. By looking at this material you create a market for it and you create an incentive for children to be abused.” The judge’s comments underscored the seriousness of the offense while recognizing the circumstances that led to the sentencing decision, emphasizing the importance of rehabilitation and prevention of further harm.
