JAKIR HUSSAIN'S SHOCKING CRIME IN CARDIFF: TAXI DRIVER'S BRUTAL RAPE AND TRAUMA REVEALED
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Cardiff, Jakir Hussain, a 39-year-old taxi driver, was convicted of a heinous sexual assault that took place in November of the previous year. The incident began when Hussain picked up a female passenger in Cardiff city centre, offering her a paid ride to her home.
What appeared to be a routine journey quickly turned into a nightmare for the victim.
According to court reports, after reaching her residence, Hussain requested to use the woman's toilet.
She allowed him entry into her home, unaware of his true intentions.
However, instead of simply using the facilities, Hussain then forced his way into her bedroom.
Despite her protests, he pushed her onto the bed, pinning her down and covering her face with her hands, which made it difficult for her to breathe.
During this assault, he removed some of her clothing and proceeded to rape her without using any protection.
Following the attack, Hussain locked the doors of the taxi and refused to let her leave until she consented to his request.
The victim described her ordeal in court, revealing the profound psychological impact it has had on her.
She stated that she can no longer stay in her own home because it has become a constant reminder of the assault, triggering flashbacks and severe emotional distress.
She recounted her struggles with sleep, her fear of darkness, and her inability to look at her bed without reliving the traumatic event.
She further explained that her trust in taxi drivers has been shattered, leading her to avoid taxis altogether.
She now fears for her safety and has even offered to drive her female friends home after nights out, a stark contrast to her previous reliance on professional drivers.
The trauma has affected her relationships and her overall sense of security, leaving her feeling vulnerable and distrustful of those she once believed to be trustworthy.
Jakir Hussain, who is married and a father of three, was identified through CCTV footage and subsequently arrested.
Despite initially denying any sexual activity, he later changed his account, claiming that everything that transpired was consensual.
However, the evidence against him was overwhelming.
His DNA was found on a carpet in the victim’s home, linking him directly to the scene.
During the trial at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, the court heard details of the assault and Hussain’s subsequent conviction for rape.
The judge, Recorder Eugene Egan, condemned Hussain’s actions, emphasizing that the victim was entitled to be treated with respect and to be taken home safely.
The court highlighted that Hussain, in a position of trust as a taxi driver, grossly abused that trust for his own gain.
In mitigation, Hussain’s legal representatives pointed out that he had a previously good character, had lived in the UK for eight years, and was about to become a father for the third time.
He also supports his family both in the UK and overseas.
Nevertheless, the court sentenced Hussain to 11 years in prison.
He will serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
Additionally, he was subjected to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and sex offender notification requirements.
He was also issued a restraining order and banned from working as a taxi driver indefinitely, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the need to protect the public from further harm.
