JAKE WATERMAN YATE SEX OFFENSES ON TEEN GIRLS IN BRIMSHAM GREEN

In July 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Jake Waterman, a resident of Long Croft in Yate, who was accused of engaging in sexual misconduct with underage girls and groping a third minor. The details of the case reveal a troubling pattern of predatory behavior that has left a lasting impact on the victims and their families.

According to court records, Waterman, then 23 years old, met three young girls, all aged 14 and 15, in the vicinity of Yate. The incidents reportedly took place after the girls had been drinking together, raising concerns about their vulnerability and the influence of alcohol. The court heard that Waterman had sexual encounters with two of the 14-year-old girls at a location known locally as “One Stop Field,” situated in Brimsham Green. Despite the girls explicitly refusing his advances, Waterman persisted and ultimately engaged in sexual activity with both of them.

These actions were reported to authorities, but initially, no further legal steps were taken. The case appeared to have been temporarily shelved, leaving the victims and their families to cope with the emotional aftermath. However, approximately a year later, Waterman’s misconduct escalated when he was accused of groping a third girl, aged 15. This incident prompted his re-arrest and brought renewed attention to his actions.

The victims and their families provided impact statements during the court proceedings, describing the profound and lasting harm caused by Waterman’s behavior. One victim described him as “disgusting,” while another expressed that his actions had “mentally destroyed” her, highlighting the deep psychological scars inflicted.

Prosecutor David Scutt outlined that Waterman had engaged in sexual activity with the two younger girls at “One Stop Field” after they had consumed alcohol. Despite their clear refusal, Waterman continued his advances, leading to the sexual encounters. The subsequent report to authorities resulted in Waterman’s arrest. Initially, due to the complainant’s inability to pursue the case at that time, no further action was taken. However, the situation changed when a third girl came forward, revealing that Waterman had touched her private parts. This led to his re-arrest and subsequent charges.

In court, Judge Julian Lambert sentenced Waterman to a two-year prison term, suspended for two years. Additionally, he imposed a curfew for one year and mandated a two-year residential requirement, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses and the need for supervision and rehabilitation. The case underscores the importance of protecting vulnerable minors and holding offenders accountable for their actions in the Yate community and beyond.
