In July 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Jake Waterman, a resident of Long Croft in Yate, who was accused of engaging in sexual misconduct with underage girls and groping a third minor. According to court records, Waterman, then 23 years old, met three young girls, all aged 14 and 15, in the vicinity of Yate. In court, Judge Julian Lambert sentenced Waterman to a two-year prison term, suspended for two years.
