KELVEDON TEEN SPARED JAIL AFTER VIOLENT DOMESTIC ATTACK
A TEENAGE dad who told his partner he would "burn everything" during an attack has been spared jail.Jake Pomeroy, 18, engaged in a violent altercation with his partner at their Kelvedon home on May 16.
The incident was partially recorded on the woman's phone, revealing her saying ‘I’m gone’ before he swung his arm and a snapping sound was heard.
The court heard the victim screaming and crying afterward.
Pomeroy used his keys across her knee, hit her over the head with his car keys, and threw PlayStation controllers at her head.
He then ordered her to take all her belongings and threatened to "burn everything." When the victim’s father arrived, Pomeroy threatened him with a kitchen knife, which he threw, cutting the man's arm, and also threw a rugby ball-sized concrete piece and a plumb hammer at his car, damaging the vehicle.
Mitigating, Huda Musa highlighted Pomeroy’s poor mental health, including diagnoses of PTSD, anxiety, and depression after a serious car crash and the loss of his grandparents.
She stated that he had shown remorse and had been working well in custody, completing many courses.
In an eight-page letter, he expressed remorse, stating, “I will never forgive myself.” The judge described his behavior as a “poor performance,” involving a emotional meltdown and threats of violence, leading her to remark, “You’ve turned into a bit of a monster.” Considering his age and efforts to address his issues, the judge allowed Pomeroy to avoid immediate imprisonment, granting a two-year suspended sentence.
He was sentenced to 12 months for assaulting his partner, six months for assaulting her father, eight months for threatening with a blade, and two months for using threatening words, all to run concurrently, with no separate penalties for damage and threats.
He is required to attend 12 mental health sessions, participate in rehabilitation activities, comply with probation, and pay a victim surcharge of £187.
