JAKE BRADLEY FROM SHERBURN SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS FOR GROOMING YOUNG GIRL IN DURHAM

A man identified as Jake Bradley, hailing from Sherburn in Durham, has been handed a four-year prison sentence after being convicted of engaging in sexual activities with a young girl he had groomed through social media. The case highlights the dangers of online grooming and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals.

Bradley's misconduct came to light after he added the young girl on Snapchat, a popular social media platform. Over the course of June to August 2022, he maintained daily communication with her, gradually escalating the nature of their conversations to include sexual content. His persistent grooming efforts culminated in multiple meetings where he made sexual advances towards the girl, who was described as being fearful during the encounters.

The victim, demonstrating remarkable bravery, eventually disclosed the abuse, prompting an immediate investigation by the Redcar Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Following the disclosure, authorities swiftly moved to arrest Bradley. He was subsequently charged with one count of grooming and three counts of sexual activity with a child. During legal proceedings, Bradley admitted to the charges against him.

On Friday, January 31, at Teesside Crown Court, Bradley was formally sentenced to four years in prison for his crimes. In addition to his incarceration, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) was imposed to restrict his contact with minors. Furthermore, Bradley will be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.

Detective Constable Romy Pattinson, who led the investigation for Redcar CID, expressed her sentiments regarding the case. She stated, “I hope this sentencing can bring some comfort to the victim, knowing that Bradley is in prison and is unable to harm anyone else. I’d like to thank the victim for her bravery and for her support throughout this extremely difficult process. We’re committed to protecting children and vulnerable people and we will do all we can to bring those causing harm to justice.”
