BRISTOL MAN JAILED FOR FRENZIED MURDER OF WIFE
Jaici Alfenas Rocha, 37, from Kensington Park in Bristol, was convicted of the savage murder of his wife, Karina Batista, at their home. The killing was characterized as frenzied and involved 27 stab wounds, including injuries to her face, eye, neck, and heart, which nearly severed her spinal cord.
The court heard that Rocha had bought a kitchen knife and brought it to the flat with the purpose of threatening his wife or her suspected lover, aiming to coerce a confession of an affair.
However, he instead launched a violent assault, stabbing her multiple times with great ferocity.
Following his denial of guilt, the jury returned a guilty verdict, and Judge Mr.
Justice Dingemans sentenced Rocha to serve at least 20 years in prison.
The judge highlighted that the attack was not planned but was carried out in a frenzied state, with specific targeting of her face, neck, and heart illustrating the crime’s brutality.
The case revealed that Rocha’s motivation was rooted in baseless jealousy, which tragically resulted in Karina Batista’s death.
She had only recently relocated to Bristol to start anew and be closer to her family.
The court conveyed that Rocha’s violent conduct was fueled by overwhelming emotion, and he would serve a minimum of 20 years behind bars.
