HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE BY JACQUELINE AND KATIE HURST IN WALSALL LEADS TO LIFETIME BAN

Jacqueline Hurst, born around 1961, residing on Southbourne Avenue in Walsall, and her relative Katie Hurst, born approximately in 1988 and living on Manor Road in Walsall, found themselves at the center of a disturbing case of animal neglect. The two women were convicted of failing to provide necessary medical treatment for their pet dogs, which were suffering from severe health issues, including infestations of worms and skin diseases.

Despite the evident suffering of their animals, Jacqueline and Katie Hurst did not seek immediate veterinary care. Instead, they attempted to treat the ailments themselves, a decision that tragically resulted in the death of two of their four puppies. The puppies, only three months old, succumbed because they did not receive the professional medical attention they desperately needed. The women admitted to five separate offenses related to causing unnecessary suffering to their animals.

Their neglect was further highlighted when issues with mange and eye conditions in their young rottweilers came to light. The dogs, being cared for at two addresses on Forrester Street in Walsall, were only taken to a veterinarian after concerns were raised. The situation escalated when the RSPCA became involved, revealing that the adult rottweiler, named Lady, aged four, and a Staffordshire bull terrier, were also suffering from similar health problems. The investigation uncovered that these animals had been subjected to neglect over an extended period.

Stan Bates, who was associated with Jacqueline Hurst and was present at Forrester Street, Pleck, was prosecuted separately for cruelty to two dogs named Lady and Bella. Bates was later convicted for neglecting these animals, adding to the severity of the case.

Prosecutor Mr. Nick Sutton, representing the RSPCA, stated during the hearing: “These animals were suffering from a cocktail of ailments so serious they caused the death of two puppies. These people are not fit to have animals.” His remarks underscored the gravity of the neglect and the urgent need for intervention.

Both Jacqueline and Katie Hurst pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them. The court handed down sentences that included a fine of £250 each to cover costs. Jacqueline Hurst was also subjected to a supervision and curfew order, restricting her movements and access to animals. Katie Hurst received a sentence of 120 hours of unpaid community work along with a supervision order. Most notably, both women were disqualified from owning or keeping any animals for the rest of their lives, a measure aimed at preventing further abuse.

This case highlights the importance of animal welfare laws and the role of the RSPCA in protecting vulnerable animals from neglect and cruelty in Walsall.
