JACQUELINE DAVIS FROM COLERAINE SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY TO DOG IN HORRIFIC CONDITION
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community of Coleraine, Jacqueline Davis, born on 14 March 1966 and residing at Quickthorn Place, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to a dog under her care. The incident, which came to light through an investigation by Animal Welfare Officers, revealed the tragic state of a schnauzer that was so severely neglected it had to be euthanised on veterinary advice.According to reports, the dog was discovered in a deplorable condition, with matted fur caked in its own faeces and a bloody discharge emanating from its rear end. The animal was in a state of extreme neglect, suffering from a womb infection that caused a swollen abdomen and bleeding. The dog was also significantly underweight and displayed lethargy, indicating a prolonged period of suffering and poor health.
Veterinary examination confirmed the severity of the dog's condition, leading to the heartbreaking decision to euthanise the animal to prevent further pain and distress. The case was brought before the court by the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council under the provisions of the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 2011.
During the court proceedings, Deputy District Judge Hamill acknowledged that Davis was experiencing personal difficulties at the time of the offence. Despite this, the judge emphasized the importance of animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. As a result, Davis was sentenced to a two-year conditional discharge, meaning she would not serve time in prison unless she committed another offence within that period. Additionally, she was ordered to pay costs amounting to £166.
This case highlights the ongoing concerns about animal cruelty and the importance of vigilance in safeguarding the welfare of pets and vulnerable animals within the community of Coleraine.
