JACK LANE GROOMED AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTED TEENAGE BOY IN RINGWOOD AND SURROUNDING AREAS

A 23-year-old man from Hangersley, near Ringwood, has been convicted of grooming and engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old boy. Jack Lane was sentenced to a year in prison following a trial at Bournemouth Crown Court and was also ordered to be placed on the sex offenders register for a period of ten years. His offending has sparked serious concerns about the safety of minors in the region.

The court proceedings revealed that Lane, from Hangersley, had established contact with a boy from Poole between March and July 2017. The relationship was rooted in their shared interest in cars, which led them to attend various automobile meets and events across southern England. Their adventures took them to locations including Poole, Hampshire, London, Wiltshire, and Northamptonshire. The two communicated frequently via Facebook and exchanged numerous text messages, fostering a bond that would later turn sinister.

According to the evidence presented at trial, the troubling misconduct occurred during visits to various events. In July 2017, Lane took the boy to an event in Ringwood, during which he inappropriately touched the teenager. This disturbing incident was part of a pattern of inappropriate behavior that continued over several months. The jury was informed that on their way back from a car show in Devon, Lane again engaged in inappropriate touching. When confronted by the boy about these actions, Lane claimed that his actions were accidental, attempting to dismiss the severity of his misconduct.

Further unsettling revelations emerged during the evidence hearing, as the pair went for a swim in the sea at Boscombe later that evening. During this swim, Lane touched the boy inappropriately over his swimming shorts, adding to the list of sexual assaults committed over the course of their interactions.

The victim finally confided in his mother about the incidents in November of that year. The court acknowledged the significant psychological harm inflicted upon the young boy, emphasizing that the multiple incidents compounded the severity of Lane's misconduct. Ultimately, the judge highlighted that the offences involved an abuse of trust and demonstrated a pattern of predatory behavior.

DC Andy Hale of Dorset Police’s Child Exploitation Team commented on the case, stating, “Jack Lane groomed his young victim and gained his trust before making repeated sexual advances, despite the boy making it clear they were against his wishes. I would like to praise the victim for having the courage to come forward so that Lane could be held accountable for his despicable actions. I hope this bravery will encourage others who may be in similar situations to come forward, knowing that law enforcement will take decisive action and prosecute offenders.”
