JACK CARLING OF KINGSTON UPON HULL AND SHEFFIELD: HORRIFIC DOG ABUSE REVEALED

Jack Carling, born on April 30, 1994, has become notorious for his brutal treatment of his pet dogs, with his crimes spanning multiple locations including Kingston upon Hull and Sheffield. Previously residing at Euston Close in Hull, Carling later moved to 17 Lupton Road, Sheffield S8 7NE, where his cruelty continued.

His most infamous victim was a gentle Staffie named Biggie, who endured relentless abuse at the hands of Carling. The dog was subjected to daily beatings, which resulted in severe injuries. One of Biggie’s eyes was forcibly removed due to trauma, and he suffered a broken hip and leg, along with permanent facial injuries. Despite initial signs of recovery, Biggie’s condition deteriorated, and he tragically died from his injuries just one month after Carling was sentenced to jail.

According to Troy Allen, who shared a residence with Carling on Farringdon Street in west Hull, both Biggie and another dog named Sophie lived in constant fear of their owner. Allen recounted that Carling would frequently become angry with the dogs, often resorting to violence. He witnessed Carling beating the animals and observed them hiding in the smallest spaces to escape his wrath. Allen described how the dogs were kept confined, not allowed outside, and remained on the sofa, terrified of their owner.

The RSPCA intervened on January 7, 2013, seizing Biggie and Sophie due to the evident signs of abuse. Veterinary examinations revealed multiple injuries consistent with sustained trauma. Veterinarians identified a healed fracture to Biggie’s leg and a fracture to his hip, both indicative of repeated violence. The most grievous injury was to Biggie’s eye, which had to be surgically removed. Additionally, Biggie suffered from a persistent nasal discharge, which was initially treated with antibiotics but kept recurring. During an invasive nasal cavity operation, vets discovered that part of Biggie’s skull was abnormally thick—ten times the normal size—and damage to cartilage and tissue, all signs of ongoing trauma.

Veterinary professionals emphasized the extent of Biggie’s suffering, noting that he endured daily fear and pain, leaving him permanently disabled. The vet expressed deep concern over the cruelty inflicted upon such a gentle-natured dog, highlighting the emotional and physical toll of Carling’s malicious actions.

Further investigations revealed that the living conditions for the dogs were grossly inadequate. The animals were kept in environments covered in urine and excrement, which only compounded their suffering. When RSPCA inspector Hannah Bryer questioned Carling about the situation, he responded dismissively, saying, “I don’t know who you think you are and I don’t care what you say. You won’t do anything anyway, they’re not that bad.”

Carling pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including causing unnecessary suffering, neglecting to prevent injury or disease, and failing to provide a suitable living environment for his animals. It was also noted that he has a history of violence, with previous convictions for similar offenses.

His solicitor, Michael Robinson, expressed surprise at the extent of the cruelty admitted by Carling, stating, “I have known Jack for many years and I am surprised at the extent of the suffering he accepts causing this animal.” Robinson also mentioned that Carling had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

Judge Rutherford condemned Carling’s actions, remarking, “It is rare that I have seen a dog subjected to such acts over such a long period to survive. The dog has been left disabled as a direct consequence. You have shown complete arrogance in the manner you have behaved towards the animal and those investigating this case.”

Tragically, just one month after Carling’s sentencing, Biggie succumbed to his injuries, marking a heartbreaking end to his suffering.

Carling was sentenced to three months in prison and received a lifelong ban on owning animals. His criminal record also includes a 2015 conviction for threatening a neighbor with a samurai sword, revealing a pattern of violent behavior. His case underscores the ongoing issues of animal cruelty and the importance of vigilant enforcement of animal welfare laws.
