FORMER POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR LIFE FOR WIFE’S MURDER
Ivan Esack, aged 38 and a former police officer from Ashford, received a life sentence after being convicted of murdering his estranged wife, Natalie Esack, at her hair salon located on Ashford High Street.Esack confessed to stabbing her 11 times with such intensity that the 8-inch (20cm) blade bent and the tip broke off during the attack.
Although he claimed diminished responsibility, the court found him guilty of murder.
The presiding judge described the homicide as a calculated and premeditated act, noting that Esack had shown no remorse.
It was revealed during the trial that Esack’s violence stemmed from his inability to accept his wife’s new romantic involvement with Justin Khadaroo.
Leading up to the incident, she received threatening texts and calls, which left her extremely anxious and fearful.
During a phone conversation, she questioned him about her options, to which he responded with, 'Death, death, death.' The judge also commented on Esack’s controlling behavior, stating, 'You are a controlling man and the only way you could continue to control her life was to take it from her.
This was a calculated, premeditated killing planned to the minute.' The court described the attack as violent and intense, and it was noted that Esack's trial took four weeks.
Evidence emerged that he was unable to accept her new relationship, which motivated him to carry out the murder.
Esack previously worked for Kent police for seven years until January 2010.
