MAN CHARGED WITH SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT IN HUDDERSFIELD
Update 18/06/2026: A rapist who was quickly apprehended following an attack in Huddersfield has received a sentence exceeding two decades.Ismail Hussain, aged 28 and without a fixed address in Huddersfield, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday, 18 June, after being convicted of two counts of rape committed in Huddersfield town center last year.
He received a 15-year prison term, complemented by an eight-year extended licence period, bringing his total sentence to 23 years.
Detectives involved in safeguarding efforts have commended the bravery shown by the victim, who reported the incident and supported the prosecution.
On 2 August 2025, officers responded to the New Street area after a man in his 20s reported being approached and then severely sexually assaulted by an unidentified male in an alley nearby.
The assault occurred between approximately 5am and 5:30am that morning.
Rapid investigations, including reviewing CCTV footage, led to Hussain’s identification within hours of the report.
He was subsequently located and arrested early on 3 August.
He was taken into police custody and formally charged with the offences, appearing in court on 6 August.
Following a trial held in February, Hussain was convicted of two counts of rape.
