ISHMAEL KHAN AND HIS SHOCKING FAILURE TO REPORT IN CAMBRIDGE AND PETERBOROUGH
A convicted sex offender from Peterborough who was once sentenced for indecent assault has been incarcerated after neglecting to inform police of his new residence.Ishmael Khan, aged 40, was convicted in 2006 for an indecent assault committed against a girl under the age of 16.
Following his conviction, he was subjected to a mandatory registration requirement that mandated him to regularly update authorities with his personal details, including his current main address and any place he stayed for more than seven days within a year.
Despite these legal obligations, Khan failed to uphold his responsibilities.
In January 2021, he informed police that he was residing at a guest house located on Eastfield Road in Peterborough.
However, during a routine check on August 23 of the same year, an officer was told by staff at the guest house that Khan had moved out several weeks earlier, but had not provided any new address or location.
This failure to notify the police within the required three-day period constituted a breach of his registration obligations.
Khan also did not complete his annual notification, which was due by January 27, 2022.
This additional lapse heightened concerns about his compliance with the terms set by the law.
Subsequently, he was located and arrested in London in April when authorities identified him as someone who had failed to adhere to the reporting requirements.
Following his arrest, Khan, who was found to have no fixed address at the time, appeared before Cambridge Crown Court.
On December 14, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to two charges related to his failure to comply with the requirements of the Sex Offenders' Register.
The court’s decision underscores the severity with which such breaches are regarded, especially given Khan’s history.
PC Lorraine Smart, a member of the Management of Sex Offenders and Violent Offenders team, remarked on the case, stating, “Khan showed a blatant disregard for the court order and we will always look to make sure sex offenders are adhering to their notification requirements.
The prison sentence reflects how seriously the courts take this type of offence.” Her statement highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to ensure compliance with regulations that are designed to protect the public and monitor sex offenders effectively.
