Imran Khan, aged 36, of Tenby Close in Blackburn, was convicted of heinous crimes including rape and child abduction, and was subsequently sentenced to 17 years in prison. The case also brought to light the criminal history of Zhaid Mohmmed, a 44-year-old man from Chester Street, who was involved in the same incident and received a sentence of three and a half years.

The court proceedings revealed a chilling account of how the two young girls, aged 14 and 15, were lured into a trap late at night. According to the court, the girls were approached and asked if they wanted a lift, as the weather was cold. Trusting the offer, they entered a silver Honda driven by Mohmmed. Once inside the vehicle, the two men spoke in their own language, instructing the girls to keep their heads down to avoid being seen by police, indicating a premeditated attempt to conceal their actions.

The men then inquired about the girls’ ages and whether they were virgins, further emphasizing the predatory nature of their intentions. The journey led them to Mohmmed’s residence on Chester Street, where the situation escalated. Imran Khan requested permission to use one of the bedrooms, which Mohmmed granted. The older girl was taken inside, and the court heard that both girls were subjected to offers of drinks and drugs, highlighting the manipulative tactics used to facilitate the abuse.

During the assault, the 15-year-old girl was raped upstairs in Mohmmed’s house, while the 14-year-old girl was subjected to an attempted sexual assault in the kitchen by Mohmmed, who tried to kiss her and placed his hand down her pants. The court described the incident as a clear case of sexual exploitation by older men, a pattern that sadly is not uncommon.

The court also heard that the girls’ abduction was not an isolated incident for Mohmmed. His defense attorney, Ken Hind, admitted that when Mohmmed was just 15 years old, he was involved in a gang that abducted a girl from a house she was staying in and took her to Blackburn before she was transported to Birmingham by others. This history of criminal behavior underscores the disturbing pattern of exploitation.

The father of one of the victims, visibly distressed, stood during the hearing and shouted, “He has destroyed my family,” capturing the emotional toll of the crimes. The judge, Lloyd, condemned the actions, emphasizing the seriousness of the offenses and the vulnerability of the victims.
