READING MAN JAILED FOR MONTHS OF DOMESTIC ABUSE
A man from Reading, described as 'dangerous,' has been sentenced to prison for a period of four years after being convicted of coercive control and multiple assaults against his partner.Imran Beg, aged 35 and residing on Brighton Road in Reading, was found guilty by a unanimous jury after a nine-day trial at Oxford Crown Court on December 6.
His convictions included coercive control, three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, as well as charges of malicious communications and witness intimidation.
On March 1, he received his sentence, with an extra year added because he was deemed a dangerous offender.
Detective Constable Sian Lewis of the Domestic Abuse Investigations Unit commented on the case, stating, “No one should have to suffer what the victim endured at the hands of Imran Beg.
This custodial sentence is justified, and I hope it helps the victim recover from her traumatic experience.
The sentence also provides a measure of closure as she begins to rebuild her life.” The court heard that between November 2021 and June 2022, Beg assaulted the victim multiple times, inflicting injuries such as black eyes, bruises, and a sore throat.
He also exercised control over her daily life, dictating her clothing choices, limiting her contact with others, and restricting her visits with family and friends.
Detective Lewis stressed that coercive behavior is unacceptable and urged victims to come forward and report such cases.
