IEUAN BATTER, CYPYDY A CHYFARWYDD YN NHYDYRYDD, TY SIGN RISCA, NEWPORT

Ieuan Batten, born on 23 October 1996 and residing on Forest Avenue, Cefn Hengoed near Ystrad Mynach, was convicted in 2020 after he assaulted his mother following her intervention to stop his vicious attack on a dog.

At just 23 years old, Batten, who is known by the nickname Skins Citroen, has accumulated a total of 20 convictions for 49 separate offenses, including previous assaults on his own mother.

Prosecutor Leah Pollard informed the court that Batten has a history of violent behavior towards his mother, with prior assault convictions on record. She described the incident that took place just before Christmas 2019, stating that Batten returned home "under the influence and in an aggressive mood."

Judge Daniel Williams was told that Batten’s mother, along with two women—one of whom was pregnant with his child—were inside her house when Batten "completely lost control." After two dogs started fighting, he took one into the kitchen and repeatedly punched and kicked the animal.

Batten’s mother covered the dog to protect it, but he then turned his anger towards her. Miss Pollard explained, “He was in a complete rage. He grabbed her by the hair and dragged her into the living room. He started punching her and stamping on her all over her body.”

One of the women present told police, “It lasted for about half an hour. I have never seen such violence in my life and I was shocked—especially when it was carried out by someone against their own mother.”

The injured woman was taken to hospital with her face "totally swollen and black, and her body covered in bruises." Batten pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

The court heard that he had previous convictions totaling 20 for 49 offenses. Mitigating his case, Nik Strobl stated, “The defendant wishes to express his remorse and he can’t believe what he has done to his own mother. He has little recollection of what happened.”

Judge Williams, addressing Batten—who was intoxicated with alcohol and drugs during the assault—described his actions as "a savage assault" and “dreadful violence.”

Batten was sentenced to two years in prison and subject to a five-year restraining order preventing him from contacting his mother. He is also required to pay a victim surcharge upon his release. However, he was not barred from keeping animals.

**Update March 2022:**

Ieuan Batten, now residing on Holly Road, Ty Sign, Risca, Newport, was sentenced to 25 weeks' imprisonment after admitting to two counts of assaulting police officers at the Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran, criminal damage to a BMW at the Masons Arms in Pontymister, and failing to surrender. He was also ordered to pay £400 in compensation following his release from custody.
