IEUAN BARTLETT SENTENCED IN CARDIFF FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF PUPIL
A teacher from Cardiff, identified as Ieuan Bartlett, has been handed a prison sentence of three years and four months after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving a minor student.The case, which was heard at Cardiff Crown Court, revealed a disturbing pattern of grooming, manipulation, and abuse carried out by Bartlett, who was 29 years old and residing in Whitchurch, Cardiff.
Initially, Bartlett denied all charges brought against him, but he later changed his plea to guilty after the jury failed to reach a verdict on the original case.
This change in plea avoided the need for a retrial and led to his sentencing.
Judge Lucy Crowther presided over the case and delivered a stern judgment, condemning Bartlett for his calculated manipulation of a vulnerable child.
The judge emphasized that Bartlett had specifically targeted the girl, exploiting her trust and innocence for his own gratification.
The court heard harrowing details of how Bartlett pressured the young girl into sending him indecent photographs when she was reluctant to do so.
The girl, who was a minor at the time, explained to the court that she initially believed Bartlett’s intentions were rooted in love and that they would be together.
However, she later realized that Bartlett had been controlling and belittling her, which caused her significant emotional distress.
Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Bartlett initially approached the girl seeking support, but over several months, he groomed her, gradually gaining her confidence and trust.
As their relationship progressed, Bartlett engaged in conversations about sex and coerced her into engaging in sexual activities.
The court was told that Bartlett had sex with the girl on multiple occasions, including one incident at her home when her parents were away.
To avoid detection, Bartlett used a side entrance to the house, steering clear of the doorbell camera.
Throughout the ordeal, Bartlett warned the girl not to tell anyone about what was happening, threatening her with the possibility of imprisonment if she disclosed the abuse.
He also fabricated details about his personal life to maintain her trust and keep her silent.
The abuse was uncovered when one of the girl’s friends noticed inappropriate messages on her phone and informed her mother, which led to police involvement.
In a personal impact statement read in court, the girl expressed how the experience had severely affected her mental health and self-esteem.
She shared that her confidence had been shattered and that she struggled with trust issues, believing that all men, like Bartlett, could be dangerous.
She also revealed that her mental health problems had worsened, making it difficult for her to trust others or believe what they said.
Bartlett was convicted of 13 offenses, including one count of possessing indecent images of a 16-year-old.
As part of his sentence, he was ordered to be placed on the sex offender register for life and was issued a restraining order to prevent any contact with the girl involved in the case.
