IAN LLOYD'S SHOCKING VOYEURISM IN GOBOWEN AND FLINTSHIRE REVEALED
In August 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Ian Lloyd, a 35-year-old man from Gobowen, Shropshire, whose actions have left a trail of betrayal and violation. Lloyd, who worked as an IT repair technician, exploited his professional access to commit a series of invasive and depraved acts over a span of twelve years.Utilizing the trust placed in him when fixing computers and mobile devices, Lloyd secretly downloaded hundreds of intimate images of women without their knowledge or consent. His misconduct extended beyond digital theft; he took the heinous step of installing a hidden camera inside his former residence in Flintshire. This covert device was used to observe unsuspecting women as they changed clothes in his swimming pool area, an act that constitutes serious voyeurism and invasion of privacy.
The criminal activities came to light after a victim noticed suspicious behavior and reported her concerns. The case was brought before Mold Crown Court, where it was revealed that thirteen victims had been identified from the footage and images collected by Lloyd. However, authorities believe that the actual number of victims could be much higher, given the extensive nature of the recordings and the duration of the offending.
Judge Niclas Parry condemned Lloyd’s actions, describing them as “calculated, planned, deliberate and selfish.” He emphasized that Lloyd’s conduct showed a blatant disregard for the privacy and dignity of his victims. The judge highlighted the severity of the breach of trust and the profound impact on those affected.
During the court proceedings, prosecutors read statements from several victims. One woman recounted how she felt her self-esteem plummeted to rock bottom after discovering she had been filmed while changing in Lloyd’s home. She described her emotional state as overwhelmed by stress. Another victim expressed her feelings of sickness and violation, describing her experience as “sickening.”
Additional testimonies revealed that Lloyd’s offending made some women feel physically uncomfortable and emotionally unsafe. One victim said the experience made her skin crawl, while another admitted to feeling paranoid and suspicious of new people, which affected her social interactions and confidence.
Lloyd pleaded guilty to five counts of voyeurism and eight counts of computer misuse. It was revealed that he had a prior conviction for downloading sexual images of children, indicating a troubling pattern of behavior. Prosecutor Karl Scholz stated that Lloyd admitted to being curious about seeing women undressed, which underscores the disturbing nature of his motivations.
As a consequence of his actions, Lloyd’s wife, who was not a victim in this case, divorced him, reflecting the personal toll of his misconduct. The court sentenced Lloyd to 18 months in prison, emphasizing the seriousness of his crimes. Judge Parry ordered that Lloyd must register as a sex offender for ten years and imposed a sexual harm prevention order for the same period, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the public from further harm.
