HULL TEACHER IAN GARFOOT CAUGHT WITH INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN IN HULL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Ian Garfoot, a 32-year-old mathematics teacher, was found to possess a significant collection of indecent photographs of children while employed at a secondary school in Hull.The incident came to light in November when police conducted a search of Garfoot's residence in Westbourne Avenue, located in the western part of Hull.
During the investigation, authorities seized a laptop and a pen drive from Garfoot's home.
The digital devices contained a total of 62 indecent images of children, with 51 of these photographs stored on the laptop and an additional 11 on the pen drive.
The offences are believed to have occurred on or before November 10, and they are linked to the material found during the search.
Garfoot was subsequently arrested and brought before Hull Magistrates’ Court, where he admitted to two charges of making indecent photographs of children.
The court proceedings revealed that the offences involved images that were stored on or before the specified date, highlighting the ongoing nature of the criminal activity.
Following his admission, Garfoot was sentenced to a series of penalties aimed at addressing his criminal conduct.
He was ordered to participate in the Northumbria Sex Offender Programme for a total of 144 hours, with an additional requirement to undergo up to 60 days of rehabilitation.
Furthermore, he is mandated to register as a sex offender for a period of five years, a measure designed to monitor and prevent further offending.
In addition to the rehabilitation orders, Garfoot was fined £20, a relatively small sum considering the severity of the allegations.
He was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a surcharge of £60.
The case has raised concerns among parents and staff at the school, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding measures and vigilance in educational environments.
