IAN DUFFY FROM RUBERY FOUND GUILTY OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AT NORTH WARWICKSHIRE COLLEGE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Rubery and the surrounding areas, Ian Duffy, a 34-year-old lecturer and curriculum manager at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College, was convicted of possessing and downloading a significant number of indecent images of children. The allegations came to light after authorities uncovered over 200 illicit images stored on college computers and Duffy's personal laptop, raising serious concerns about the safety and security within educational institutions.During the trial at Warwick Crown Court, Duffy maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to 11 charges of making indecent images of children. He claimed that he was being falsely accused by his wife, Christine, and a colleague at work, for whom she had left him. Despite his assertions, the jury found him not guilty of 10 of the charges, which involved individual images downloaded on the day his wife announced her departure from their marriage.
However, the court found Duffy guilty of the 11th charge, which involved the creation of 247 indecent images of children over a period spanning from April 2005 to March of the following year. The prosecution, led by Andrew Tucker, detailed that Duffy was employed at the college’s Nuneaton site, where he worked alongside Andrew Adams. Adams, who became a close friend of Duffy and his wife Christine, suffered a heart attack in January of the previous year. During Adams’ recovery, Christine Duffy initiated an affair with him, which became publicly known on March 10 when she informed her husband of her infidelity and subsequently left their home.
Further investigations into the college’s computer systems revealed the extent of Duffy’s activities. On March 24, the college’s computer technical services manager was alerted to low storage space on one of the servers. While attempting to locate and delete unnecessary files, such as music downloads, he discovered a series of suspicious folders. Upon opening these folders, he found one labeled 'Lolitas,' which contained child pornography. Recognizing the severity of the discovery, the manager immediately reported the findings to the college’s vice-principal, who then contacted the police.
During the proceedings, Duffy’s defense attorney, Joseph Lewis, highlighted that Christine, now known as Christine Amos-Adams, had a prior history involving a police caution in 1998 for having sex with a 15-year-old boy. As a result, she was placed on the sex offenders’ register. Christine testified that she and Duffy had previously attended swinging clubs, and she denied any involvement or interest in viewing pornography. The case was subsequently adjourned for the preparation of a pre-sentence report, and Duffy was granted bail pending sentencing.
