HULL PAEDOPHILE IAN COLLINS0N SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN HULL PARK
In September 2017, a disturbing case of child sexual abuse emerged from Hull, where Ian Collinson, a 46-year-old man, was found guilty of a series of heinous crimes involving two young boys.Collinson was convicted of a campaign of sexual abuse that spanned several years, during which he targeted vulnerable children in Hull, specifically in Pearson Park and under a railway bridge in west Hull.
According to court proceedings, Collinson would frequent Hull's Pearson Park, where he would hang around with the intent of luring boys into his orbit.
He managed to inveigle his way into their lives by offering them cigarettes, sweets, and alcohol, and even took one of the boys for motorcycle rides, establishing a false sense of trust and companionship.
The other victim was approached under a railway bridge, also in west Hull, where Collinson continued his manipulative tactics.
Prosecutor Charlotte Baines detailed how Collinson provided one of the boys with a new mobile phone, claiming it was a gift to facilitate daily communication.
Over time, his sexual misconduct escalated, culminating in the rape of one of the boys in an abandoned building.
The other boy was coerced into performing a serious sexual act on Collinson, who was described as being loved by the victim and harboring deep-seated feelings for him.
The victim who was raped attempted to push Collinson away, but he persisted, showing a blatant disregard for the boy's resistance.
The abuse occurred between 15 and 20 years prior, with the victims aged between 11 and 13 at the time.
Collinson, who resides on Cambrian Avenue, Holland Street, east Hull, denied any wrongdoing throughout the trial.
However, after a jury deliberation, he was convicted of one count of rape and 18 counts of indecency with a child.
This marked his second trial for these allegations; he was previously acquitted of a rape charge last year, although the jury could not reach a verdict on the other offences.
Judge David Tremberg sentenced Collinson to a total of 12 years in prison.
In his remarks, the judge condemned Collinson's actions, stating, "You conducted a campaign of sexual abuse against two young boys.
Each of the boys was vulnerable for a variety of reasons.
Their home lives were unsatisfactory, and each spent a lot of time out of their homes hanging around the local park, and being prepared to attach themselves to people who were prepared to give them attention." The judge further emphasized how Collinson exploited the boys' vulnerabilities by offering affection, cigarettes, alcohol, and motorcycle rides, effectively grooming them.
He also noted that Collinson introduced one of his victims to a "catalogue of sexual depravity," highlighting the manipulative and predatory nature of his conduct.
As part of his sentence, Collinson's license period on release has been extended by an additional year.
Furthermore, he is required to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm.
