IAN CAMPBELL FROM ASCOT SENTENCED FOR MULTIPLE INDECENT EXPOSURES IN ASCOT AND BRACKNELL

In May 2016, Ian Campbell, a 26-year-old man from Ascot, was brought to justice after a series of disturbing incidents involving public indecency and harassment. Over the course of just five days, Campbell engaged in three separate acts of exposing himself and touching his genitals in public places, targeting women and children alike.

The first incident occurred on the morning of May 28 in Allsmoor Park, where Campbell followed a woman aged 31 who was walking with her child and dog. As she strolled through the park, Campbell approached her and, in a disturbing display, pulled down his trousers and exposed himself. This act took place at approximately 9 a.m., leaving the victim understandably shaken and distressed.

Later that same day, Campbell was seen standing in front of a 30-year-old dog walker in Longhill Park. He positioned himself in a wooded area about three meters from her, engaging in self-touching behavior while concealed among the trees. The woman noticed his actions and, around 5:40 p.m., observed him again in the same area, still engaged in touching himself. These repeated acts of indecency caused significant alarm and fear among the victims.

One particularly alarming incident involved a 25-year-old woman and her child, whom Campbell followed along Goaters Road Park. He came within just two meters of them, further demonstrating his predatory behavior. The victims described feeling terrified by his close proximity and the nature of his actions, which were carried out in public spaces that are typically frequented by families and individuals seeking recreation.

Detective Sergeant Marc Skinner of Bracknell CID commented on the case, emphasizing the profound impact these crimes had on the victims. He stated, “These offences have had a significant and undoubtedly long-lasting effect on the victims. To be approached by a man exposing himself, in a secluded wooded area, can only be described as terrifying. Two of the victims had young babies with them at the time, making them even more vulnerable.”

Campbell’s attempts to conceal his identity, including wearing face coverings on multiple occasions, complicated the investigation. Despite these efforts, law enforcement was able to gather sufficient evidence to charge him. His actions were deemed highly disturbing and indicative of a pattern of predatory behavior.

Following a trial at Reading Crown Court, Campbell was convicted by a majority jury on April 6. The court found him guilty of three counts of indecent exposure. Subsequently, on May 6, he was sentenced to 78 weeks in prison. In addition to his custodial sentence, Campbell was issued a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect for five years after his release, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further offending.

Ian Campbell, who resides on Fernbank Crescent in Ascot, will now serve his sentence and face the consequences of his actions, which have left a lasting impact on his victims and the community alike.
