IAIN LANGDALE OF BRISTOL SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES
In June 2011, Iain Langdale, of St Paul’s in Bristol, was sentenced to 18 years in prison after being found guilty of multiple sexual offenses. He was convicted at Bristol Crown Court on three counts of rape and 11 sexual assaults against a girl aged between six and seven.
The trial revealed that Langdale, 52 years old at the time, had abused the girl at his former home in Hartcliffe and also at her family’s nearby residence, and it appeared he had evaded justice for over a decade.
Officers involved in Operation Bluestone emphasized that this conviction demonstrates that victims can seek justice regardless of how much time has passed since the incidents.
Detective Constable Simon Jones, who led the investigation, commented: "This case would not have progressed to court if it wasn’t for the courage and bravery of the victim.
It was a difficult investigation not only due to the historic nature of the offence but the inter-familial aspect as well." He added, "This resulted with numerous enquiries with other family members who fully supported this investigation.
The lengthy sentence reflects the seriousness of this crime and the impact on the victim and the family.
It demonstrates the robust stance of the courts when dealing with such investigations." Langdale's conviction and sentencing serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to bring offenders to justice, no matter how much time has elapsed since the offenses occurred.
