HILMI KISACIK ON THE RUN IN CAMBRIDGE AFTER FAILED SENTENCING FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES
A man with a troubling history of sexual offences has disappeared before he could be formally sentenced, prompting an urgent police investigation in Cambridge.Hilmi Kisacik, aged 44, was convicted of serious sexual misconduct after engaging in a deceptive online interaction with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl on Facebook Messenger in April.
In reality, the individual was an undercover decoy operated by an online child protection group, designed to identify and confront potential offenders.
Following this encounter, authorities took swift action.
Later that month, representatives from the child protection group visited Kisacik’s residence on Fore Hill, Ely, to confront him about his online activities.
Despite the evidence against him, Kisacik was convicted and sentenced in his absence at Cambridge Crown Court.
An arrest warrant was subsequently issued to locate and apprehend him.
In May, Kisacik entered a plea of not guilty to the charges brought against him.
However, he failed to appear at a scheduled preliminary hearing in August, raising concerns about his whereabouts.
The case was set for trial on the following Thursday, but before the trial could proceed, Kisacik was convicted in his absence of two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor and one count of attempting to incite a girl to engage in sexual activity.
On Friday, the court sentenced him to a prison term of two years and eight months.
The authorities have emphasized that, although Kisacik did not communicate with a real child, his intent to incite a minor to engage in sexual activity was clear and serious.
PC Shane O’Brien, speaking on behalf of the police, stated, “Although Kisacik didn’t speak to a real 14-year-old girl, the intent to incite a child to engage in sexual activity was still there.” He further added, “Protecting children from paedophiles is a force priority and I would urge anyone who knows of this man’s whereabouts to contact police.” The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat online grooming and protect vulnerable minors from exploitation, especially in the Cambridge area where Kisacik’s activities have raised alarm among community members and authorities alike.
