PENSIONER JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING GIRLS IN BURNLEY
A pensioner named Herbert George Bridges, aged 69 and from Clitheroe, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing two girls in Burnley.The court heard that Bridges showed no remorse for his crimes.
He had emotionally blackmailed or paid the victims up to £25 to keep quiet about the abuse.
Bridges was convicted by a jury of two attempted rape charges, 11 indecent assaults, and one act of gross indecency.
Judge Stuart Baker emphasized the community's disgust, stating that a severe sentence was necessary to reflect the community's feelings.
The judge also imposed a sex offender order preventing Bridges from being in the company of children without supervision, disqualified him from working with children, and ordered him to notify police of any change of address.
He was also placed on an extended license of three years after his release.
