In a disturbing case that has shocked the Dudley community, Helen Cartwright, a 42-year-old mother of three from Dudley, was involved in a sexual relationship with a teenage boy, which culminated in her giving birth to his child. The incident came to light after social services intervened, leading to her arrest and subsequent court proceedings.

According to court reports, the relationship between Cartwright and the 15-year-old boy began innocuously, with initial interactions limited to friendly gestures such as hugging and kissing. However, these interactions escalated over time, and by May of the previous year, the relationship had become more intimate. It was during this period that Cartwright engaged in sexual activity with the boy in her marital bed at her residence located on the Russells Hall estate in Dudley.

The court was informed that despite her marriage and her responsibilities as a mother, Cartwright continued her relationship with the underage boy. The most shocking revelation was that she had since given birth to a five-month-old baby fathered by the youth. The court heard that the relationship was initiated by the boy, who reportedly slept with Cartwright in her own bed, with the prosecutor, Ms. Sati Ruck, emphasizing that the sexual contact was instigated by the underage individual.

Helen Cartwright was arrested after authorities were alerted by social services. During police interviews, she admitted to knowing that the boy was underage at the time of their encounters. Despite the arrest and the end of their contact following police intervention, the relationship persisted beyond her arrest, continuing even after the birth of their child.

Defense lawyer Ms. Sharonjit Bahia stated in court that her client had been honest during police questioning, admitting her involvement without attempting to conceal her actions. The court was also told that the relationship had ceased once police became involved, but the emotional and legal consequences of her actions remained.

Helen Cartwright, who resides on Langstone Road in Dudley, pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a child under 16. The judge sentenced her to two years in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years, meaning she would not serve time unless she committed another offense within that period. Additionally, she was placed under a two-year supervision order and was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years. The court's decision reflected the seriousness of the offense but also considered her guilty plea and cooperation during proceedings.
