HEATH SEFTON COLWYN JAILED IN CYPRUS FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
Heath Sefton Colwyn, a 33-year-old family man reportedly working within the Jewish community in Cyprus, has been sentenced to nine months in jail for downloading child pornography.Colwyn was arrested following an investigation by police into a West Midlands man who had sent indecent images to him.
When authorities visited Colwyn's home on March 22, 2005, they confiscated two laptops and 21 floppy disks.
Analysis of these devices revealed a total of 488 indecent images of children aged approximately nine to 15 years.
Prosecutor Geoffrey Greenwood told Liverpool Crown Court that out of these images, 277 were classified in the lowest category of child abuse material, while 89 were in a more serious category involving sexual activities with adults.
Additionally, emails found on one laptop indicated that Colwyn had distributed images to others with similar interests in the UK.
Colwyn, residing at Cornwall Way, Ainsdale, pleaded guilty to 26 counts of making indecent images of children and five counts of distributing such material.
His defense barrister, Andrew Loveridge, stated that Colwyn, who has no previous convictions of this kind, denied that his actions were sexually motivated.
However, Judge David Aubrey, QC, expressed skepticism, saying he found it "difficult to accept" that motive.
The judge emphasized that viewing such images helps to perpetuate child abuse.
Mr.
Loveridge explained that Colwyn committed these offenses about two and a half years prior and that he did so due to feelings of isolation.
His wife, with whom he has a three-year-old son, remains supportive of him.
Colwyn, who works as an electrical engineer, maintains that his behavior was not sexually motivated, but the court took a stern view of his actions, resulting in his nine-month imprisonment.
