HASSAN MUWANGA PERTH DRUG DEALER CAUGHT WITH NEARLY 30 CUSTOMERS AND VIOLENT INCIDENTS
Hassan Muwanga, a 31-year-old call centre sales adviser based in Perth, has been sentenced to 19 months in prison after admitting to operating a drug distribution network from his residence in Potterhill. The court heard that Muwanga’s involvement in illegal drug activities was extensive, with authorities uncovering evidence of his dealings with nearly 30 different individuals through messages stored on his mobile phones.
His criminal history includes a previous conviction in 2016, when he was caught red-handed selling cannabis to a 15-year-old boy outside his flat.
Despite serving time then, Muwanga resumed his illicit activities shortly after his release, continuing to run a drug operation from his home.
The Perth Sheriff Court was informed that he was actively involved in the supply of cannabis between February 8, 2017, and May 1, 2018, a period during which police conducted multiple raids.
One such raid occurred in July 2017, when detectives searched his residence and discovered several small deals, often involving tenner bags of cannabis.
During this operation, two mobile phones were seized, both containing messages related to drug transactions with approximately 28 different individuals dating back to February 2017.
These messages provided clear evidence of ongoing sales and customer contacts.
Further investigations led to another raid on April 19, 2018.
As police approached Muwanga’s front door, they intercepted a customer leaving the premises with cannabis.
Inside, officers found additional pre-packaged deals ready for sale, along with drug paraphernalia and another phone filled with conversations concerning drug sales.
These findings confirmed that Muwanga was actively engaged in the distribution of cannabis during this period.
In addition to his drug-related activities, Muwanga admitted to assaulting his former partner on December 18, 2017, on Tweedsmuir Road in Perth.
The assault was witnessed via FaceTime on the victim’s mobile device, where the court was shown footage of the incident.
Prosecutor Michael Sweeney described how Muwanga, the ex-partner of the victim, entered her property, grabbed her by the hair, pushed her to the ground, and punched her in the face.
During the hearing, solicitor Paul Ralph acknowledged the presence of numerous text messages but characterized Muwanga’s activities as generally low-level, though still criminal.
The court was told that despite police searches and raids, Muwanga continued his illegal dealings, demonstrating a blatant disregard for law enforcement efforts.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis emphasized the seriousness of the case, noting that the 15-month sentence covered the period during which two searches were conducted.
The sheriff highlighted that the defendant’s continued activity despite police intervention underscored the need for a firm custodial sentence to serve as a deterrent.
