HASSAN ALI WANTED IN BRIERFIELD AND BEYOND: POLICE SEEK SEX OFFENDER WHO FAILED TO REGISTER

In April 2020, authorities issued an urgent appeal for assistance in locating Hassan Ali, a convicted sex offender with ties to Brierfield, who is currently wanted for multiple violations of his legal obligations. Ali, aged 27 at the time, is known to have failed to comply with the requirements of his sex offender notification duties, prompting police to intensify their efforts to apprehend him.

Hassan Ali’s criminal history is grave. In 2015, he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being convicted of the repeated rape of a female child under the age of 16. The crimes took place at various locations, including a local hotel, and involved grooming and sexual assault. Despite his sentence, Ali was released early from prison, which subsequently led to further complications. He was also wanted for failing to appear at Blackburn Magistrates Court in March of that year to face charges related to breaching a court order.

Descriptions provided by police depict Ali as an Asian male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build. He has black hair and a full beard. Distinctive physical features include a scar on the top of his head, a birthmark on his left elbow, two surgical scars on his right shoulder, and three surgical scars on his right knee. Authorities have confirmed that Ali maintains links to several locations, including Brierfield, Colne, Burnley, Luton, and Greater Manchester, complicating efforts to track him down.

Ali’s disappearance in 2019 was a significant concern. Although he was eventually located and detained by police, the court granted him bail, and he subsequently went on the run once again. His history of absconding and reappearing has made him a high-priority target for law enforcement agencies.

Further back, in September 2019, police issued a separate appeal for information regarding Ali’s whereabouts. At that time, he was 26 years old and was wanted for breaching his sex offender notification requirements. His conviction stemmed from a 2015 case at Bolton Crown Court, where he was found guilty of raping a schoolgirl. Detective Constable Madeleine Barrientos from the East Management of Sexual and Violent Offenders team urged the public to come forward with any information that could lead to his arrest. She emphasized the importance of community cooperation and also appealed directly to Ali, urging him to contact authorities if he saw the appeal.

Ali’s criminal activities and subsequent absences have caused significant distress among victims and their families. The case of a 15-year-old girl, raped in Prestwich in late 2012 and early 2013, drew particular attention. Her mother, who requested anonymity to protect her daughter’s identity, expressed her frustration over the perceived leniency of the sentences handed down to the offenders. The mother revealed that her daughter, now 17, had been missing from home on January 23, 2013, and was found the next day at a hotel in Burnley, where she disclosed the abuse she had suffered.

It was established that the girl had met Suleman Memon, aged 20 at the time, of Windsor Road, Prestwich, in 2012. Memon persuaded her to visit his home, where he raped her in a bedroom. Later, on January 23, 2013, Memon took her to a hotel in Burnley, where Hassan Ali, then 22 and residing on Burton Gardens, Brierfield, Nelson, raped her twice. Both men admitted to the charges of rape during court proceedings at Bolton Crown Court.

At a sentencing hearing last year, Judge Peter Davies sentenced Ali to three years and six months in prison. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely and was barred from working with children. Memon, who was 17 at the time of the offenses, received a sentence of 21 months in a young offenders’ institution, with additional conditions including a 56-day curfew upon release and a 10-year registration requirement.

The mother of the victim expressed her profound disappointment with the severity of the sentences. She stated, “It is just not strong enough. They have changed my daughter’s life forever. It is something that she will have to live with for the rest of her life and I don’t think the punishment goes far enough.” She also highlighted the impact on her family, noting her daughter’s potential to excel academically before the trauma disrupted her education. The mother concluded with a plea for justice, emphasizing her fear that the offenders would not learn their lesson and that her daughter’s future remains uncertain.
